Shouldn’t Miss News 2012 Countdown Edition

Today as you know is the last day of 2012, depending on where you are or when you are reading this.  2012 was a packed year, and what is better to sum it up than a handful of countdowns?  Enjoy!

I previously shared the Top 10 Architectural Controversies of 2012, but here it is again, because it’s a countdown and this is the Countdown Edition of Shouldn’t Miss News.

In the historic preservation category, here are Mapping the Biggest Preservation Wins and Losses of 2012 from Curbed.com and Ten Remarkable Preservation Wins of 2012 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. There is some overlap as Curbed.com reached out to the NTHP for it’s list in order to map them, which I enjoyed looking at.

In the archaeological category, here is Archaeology Magazine’s Top 10 Discoveries of 2012.  These discoveries come from all over the world, pretty neat!

The museum category’s list comes from the Center for the Future of Museums featuring their top 10 museum-related stories of the year.

For those of you into planning, here is Planetizen’s list of Top 10 Books and its list on Tactical Urbanism Projects.  There are really neat ideas in the second list.

Well, that’s it for the 2012 countdowns.  Happy New Year everyone! May you all have a healthy and happy 2013.
